The gym was filled with kids and big TV screens and tons of food, p;izza, cookies, etc. Whenever Bush came on the screen the kids booed, and when Obama came on they cheered as if he were a rock star! The kids were hugging one another and then they got up and sang This Land is Your Land in sweet little voices, and all the parents cried.
Hi Caroline, this is your former neighbor from 615! If you think being with kids was great, I had the wonderful experience of celebrating in Annapolis, MD, a so called Southern state where segregation still goes on to a point. For so many decades, people here have been looked down upon by so many and coming from the NYC area and being raised by a liberal mom, this was hard to deal with when I first moved here. It was such a joyous time here during the election and inauguration with so many people young & old celebrating the much needed change of racial barriers. I wish the President and him staff the best of luck. They have come a long way but the road they are on is a brand new one and hopefully will be as smooth as possible with all the right changes that are needed
I did not take photos since I did not want to take my eyes off the TV. You can see what I mean by logging onto www.hometownannapolis.com and scroll down to the slideshows and video section.
Tell stories when you return! :)
